Molly Stephenson is an emerging artist and writer based in Naarm/Melbourne.
Metaphysically motivated, Molly's practice explores the displacement of human labor, performance and projection upon the non-human world through intuitive making, memory and reproduction. Molly is particularly interested in unpacking anthropological binaries, dualisms and phantasmic fetishe, and how they can influence hierarchical value structures through sculpture and installation.
Molly received her Bachelors of Fine Arts (Honours) with First Class Honours at Monash University in 2020, and completed her Bachelors of Fine Arts at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2019. She has exhibited with galleries such as SEVENTH Gallery, Buxton Contemporary and BLINDSIDE, with an upcoming show being held at Miller's Homestead and Gardens for the City of Knox's exhibition program, 'Immerse 2021.' She has also been published by publishing house Hearts of Hearts Press and Tesserae Press. Molly was long-listed for 'Hatched 2021: National Graduate Showcase,' received the City of Melbourne's 'Quick Response Art Grant' in 2020, The National Gallery of Victoria's 'Women's Association Award' in 2019, an 'Individual Creative Grant' from the City of Boroondara, as well as was the recipient of the John Vickery Scholarship at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2019.
